Two things that plague my hair and skin at this time of year: I am a pale Scandanavian and a Minnesotan. The reasons being: a tan helps your skin hold moisture and makes you look healthier. And Minnesota weather is cold and dry. The combination of which can wreak absolute havoc on your appearance if you aren’t careful! Case in point: flyaway hair and scaly skin are not fashionably acceptable. To combat these two winter woes, I have an arsenal of products that keep things fresh. Unscaly. And non-flyaway-able.

bbmasque

1. The Bumble and Bumble Creme de Coco Masque is awesome! It is super rich, smells like summer, and can be used once a week. I use it after shampooing, and leave it in overnight to give my hair enough time to absorb the moisturizing goodness before rinsing it out. It makes my hair soft and shiny, and makes me feel like I just stepped out of a hair commercial.

:side note: if you use a light conditioner in the shower and THEN use the masque, that’s fine, just don’t expect your hair to be voluminous or curl well the following day…

cliniquelotion

2. I use the Clinique Moisturizer year round, I just change how I use it a little in the winter. In the morning, I use the Proactive refining lotion, which can create a dryness issue without the winter weather. And we all know that skin flakiness is decidedly not sexy. So after that’s had a chance to set in, I’ll use three pumps of this moisturizer before putting on my makeup, to prevent any skin flakiness during the day. Then before bed, I slather this stuff on all over my face – including eyes – to soak in. And sometimes, if it’s a really dry day, I’ll put a little on before gymming.

nivea

3. My favorite all over lotion is the Nivea Essentially Enriched body lotion. It’s light, so it doesn’t feel like you’re slathering lard all over yourself, but still super moisturizing. I’ve tried a LOT of different body lotions over the years, and none of them stack up to this – at least none of the affordable ones do. Just remember to get your neck – fight those signs of aging before they start!

aveda

4. I adore the Aveda Hand Relief Creme. Whenever I actually notice that my hands are super dry, I’m usually out and about. Or at the office. And being addicted to instant gratification like I am, I need it fixed INSTANTLY. The nice thing about this lotion is that it’s easy to carry in your purse, and will give you the moisture your hands are craving for the rest of the day. And it smells delicious. I’m sniffing my hands as we speak…

bodybutter

5. And last but not least, I always keep a jar of Clinique Body Butter in my bathroom. Because when I need a super moisturizer like woah, this baby’s always there for me. It fixes things, man.

Other mositure tricks I use from time to time:

1. Using olive oil in the bath or as a lotion – how do you think the beautiful women of Italia look so fab?

2. Keeping a little jar of Nivea creme in my desk drawer – to fix gross, dry cuticles.

3. Putting a little vaseline on my feet before working out, to prevent icky workout foot.

4. Trying to use luke-warm water instead of super hot water, which is extra drying.

5. Wearing socks to bed. Trust me, it works.

:side note: I am not paid to review these products. I use them, and promote the products that work for me.

My new fave dry-skin-hair-cuticle buster: Moroccan Oil. A great little product I got from my salon for my hair, but have fell in love with for my dry hands, cracked feet and generally dry anything…. Just a little in damp hair plus the blow dryer = divine!
